INNOVATION & LEADERSHIPBackground: Children’s Health System of Texas (CHST) is comprised of campuses in Dallas and Plano. Located thirty miles apart, the distance places a strain on communication within the enterprise. While Semiannual Reports (SARs) provide retrospective data, our surgeons frequently voiced a desire to visualize timely postoperative occurrences in an attempt to provide on-time interventions. Implementation: Surgical Clinical Reviewers (SCRs) queried available resources including National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) surgeon champions, an otolaryngologist, and our perioperative data analyst. Each player brought a unique perspective and assisted in prioritizing metrics. As a team, the Tableau educational process was developed and optimized. This process laid the foundation for the building of the data platform. We highlighted quantitative data in an advantageous manner that yielded dashboards displaying clinical relationships. Furthermore, we were also able to create a dashboard that pinpointed patient populations with an increased risk for developing postoperative pneumonia. We continue to refine dashboards and create visualizations for opioid prescribing practices, appendectomy protocols, and NSQIP 30-day follow-up criteria. Evaluation: Timely updates to dashboards were hindered by frequent changes in ACS report structures, emphasizing the need for agile and sustainable reporting frameworks Successful implementation of data visualization tools required immense stakeholder engagement, investment, and cross-collaborative training Dashboards provide a clear understanding of trends and confirmed the challenge of addressing implicit biases
